What happens after a job change – and why do around half of those affected leave their new job again within two years? The "Rebound Jobs" study by Restart Career and Talentwunder uses 8,852 publicly visible LinkedIn profiles to examine how long employees stay in their new company after different types of job changes. The results show that while 51 percent of those who changed jobs after being laid off change jobs again within two years, this percentage is significantly lower for employees with professional support. In the group studied, 77 percent stayed in their new job for longer than two years.
The study explains how shock, self-doubt, and fear of the future can lead to hasty decisions, the role of guidance and individual support, and what companies should learn from this for their restructuring and outplacement programs.
